The Times has reported that if you want to buy an iPad in the UK on Friday, and you cant get to an official Apple store, you better get down to one of the Dixons Store Group International stores (Dixons Travel Shops, PC World, Currys and other joint Currys/PC World stores). The Dixons group have been given an exclusive 60-day deal to sell the iPad in their 139 stores.
These will be available from 9am in the above stores but can still be pre-ordered through Apple’s own stores. Pc World already has a URL dedicated to the arrival however the page remains blank.
A spokesman for DSGi stated “We can confirm that the information in The Times article is correct and Apple will be announcing their distribution plans in the next few days.” Alot of the smaller resellers and even some larger retailers will be irritated by Apple’s restrictions and refusal to confirm exact deatils of the launch.
Anyone still hoping to beat the rush by ordering an iPad through Apple’s website will most likely have to wait too – it was stating that boxes would be shipping 7 June, now the site simply states “June”. Look again like we will just have to wait ….
