These smart engineers have managed to make an iPad screen detect their pogo stylus pen by way of hacking the private UIKit framework of the iPad. Most graphic tablets have stylus pens that detect thousands of different pressures levels however the iPad posed some problems as it only has two levels 1 and 0. Although hard to believe the iPad’s screen actually knows the level of pressure, it is conceivable that when the stylus foam tip is pressed, its tip grows and that it is this that can be measured by the standard multi-touch detection .

One of the best features of this demo software is the Palm rejection that allows you to rest your palm, hand or fingers on your iPad display screen while you take notes or drawing without the screen responding to the pressure..

The developers are hoping Apple will open up the private software framework (although a very slow process from Apple) thus enabling this new capability to be released as a software library so that any developer anywhere can easily integrate this into their own applications.

Just another application that the Redmond pie introduced, this is about navigating a magic mouse to a hacked / jailbroken iPad. Any Bluetooth mouse will be sufficient to control the iPad but the best is the apple mouse. One of its attractive features is ability for you to swap buttons around and control the mouse speed when using the application. This would not be complete without the free BTstack Mouse utility (a utility developed by Matthias Ringwald that let’s you control an iPhone with a Bluetooth mouse. Although it was originally released for the iPhone, this is also worth trying on the iPad) available from the Cydia application store.

How to setup the Bluetooth mouse for your iPad? Well, its very easy wont take you long to learn. First, secure the Bluetooth mouse.

Then prepare your iPad to set the availability of the Bluetooth mouse. Turn on the Bluetooth mouse first, then go to the mouse settings from your hacked iPad.

-can you see the red circled part? That’s for the mouse setting. Select that icon,

You will now see this screen after you select the icon, this shows your iPad is searching for the Bluetooth device. Just select the name of the wireless mouse you’re using. In this picture the device used was the apple wireless mouse (see image below).

After selecting the device this one should appear (see image below)

And that’s it, Hold your magic mouse and you will see your mouse cursor on the screen of your iPad. You may now manipulate your iPad using the magic mouse. You can browse anything from within your iPad.

A spokesman for DSGi stated “We can confirm that the information in The Times article is correct and Apple will be announcing their distribution plans in the next few days.” Alot of the smaller resellers and even some larger retailers will be irritated by Apple’s restrictions and refusal to confirm exact deatils of  the launch.

Anyone still hoping to beat the rush by ordering an iPad through Apple’s website will most likely have to wait too – it was stating that boxes would be shipping 7 June, now the site  simply states “June”.  Look again like we will just have to wait ….

Please note this only works on iPads that have already been hacked see our post on getting your iPad Hacked if you haven’t already. Once Hacked you can use the following:

First you need to find your new Cydia icon on your springboard  press the icon, it will start to load while it updates the sources and loads the welcome screen. If this is your fist time using Cydia or you haven’t used it in a while, you may get a notice “Essential upgrades” appear. These are the actual upgrades to Cydia application itself that will be needed to install new packages and applications. Press the essential upgrades and confirm to begin the download and installation of the upgrade. Wait for it to complete and close the window, press your home key and re-launch Cydia to continue (always recommended to restart Cydia to ensure new packages are reloaded).

To update applications if you have previously installed any, you will notice a notification next to the “Changes” menu. This indicates there are updates for your already installed applications. First press “changes” and press Upgrade all (will be top right of your screen) then press confirm to continue and download and install. (tip- in the “changes” you will also find recently added or changed applications and may be a great place to find anything new)

Now you should be able to upgrade and update already installed applications to your newly Hacked iPad.

I will explain how to load any new applications.

To install an application you will need to press the Install button (near the bottom) and here you can browse through the many different categories of applications available. Choose a category, then browse through to the actual application you are looking for and press the name of your  chosen application. In the top right you’ll find the Install button press this and then press confirm on the next page, it will now start to run downloading, preparing and complete . When completed press close, you are finished and your application will be installed. Hit your home key, the home screen will refresh and show your new icon.

Cydia provides a more user-friendly user interface for some open-source (free) software-installation tools originally developed for Debian (specifically APT, and the dpkg package management system). Cydia uses  repositories which  allow the installation of different software packages, most of which are available to download for free . Within Cydia you will also find the Cydia Store, this offers a number of applications for sale. Both free and paid software packages are downloaded directly to your iPad  to the same location as Apple’s pre-installed applications (the /Applications directory).

For those who don’t know  jailbreaking your iPad is the process that allows a user to access the file systems on their iPad and then install 3rd party( non Apple)  applications or to modify existing applications.  Can anyone do it ? YES , it is a fairly simple process and is very similar to jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod. Once hacked your able to download a whole host of different free applications to use on your iPAd. This Hack modifies some of the files to enable access but don’t worry it wont brick (make inoperable) your iPad and is easily restored back to your original setting through a restore on iTunes.

After your iPad has been hacked (unlocked), you will use an application called Cydia to download the free applications, you will be able to SSH (secure shell) using a FTP (file transfer protocol) client and manually modify files as you wish.

A word of advice up for anyone  that has never done this before, use Google and research! Just remember the magic word….backup! Backup your iPad on iTunes before attempting any new tricks or tips

For Uk customers still deciding to pre-order the iPad or not, and hoping to avoid having to queue in the stores, the wait has increased. According to Apple’s pre-order page in the UK and Europe, customers will now have to wait until 7 June before the manufacturer will ship them an iPad.

These  new shipping dates won’t affect those that got their pre-orders in, when it opened on Monday 10 May. Apple has confirmed the 28 May shipping date for the time being.

An apple spokesperson was quoted as saying “Demand for iPad has been off the charts. We are working hard to get iPads into customers’ hands as quickly as possible”, before confirming that it will have stock in stores on launch day in store. However, Apple wouldn’t go as far as to say how many each store would be getting, instead suggesting that queuing might be the only way to guarantee one before June if you haven’t pre-ordered already.

And if you are hoping a quick dash over the pond to the US will help to secure the iPad in your hands, think again. Apple’s US website is claims  a seven  to ten day waiting period for all models (both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi plus 3G) suggesting stock levels are definitely taking strain as it diverts all it has to the other countries launching around the world.

There have been reports  that the iPads are out of stock in some Apple stores around the US, with the company’s flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York turning people away empty handed.

Looks like we will just have to wait .

Anywhere you happen to be, you will have the opportunity to showcase your work, and sell your services to interested parties.

Until now, I have used my iPhone as my portable wedding portfolio. The iPhone has been a great companion. Not just a communications device, but also a great, always on, internet connection, GPS, Maps, Apps and a plethora of other uses. I have had and used my iPhone from the very first day of its introduction, June 29, 2007.

So, you can imagine my enthusiasm when Apple announced the iPad. Light, easy to carry around, long battery life, online connections by either wi-fi or via 3g over the cellular network, large memory capacities to hold tens of thousands of images, large bright colorful screen. This device will I believe, change the way we do business.

The Apple iPad will allow us photographers to showcase our best photos either using images stored on the device, or on a website using the built-in network capability. Whether you are a still photographer or a videographer, you will be able to show still images or video of your work, right there in your hand with the iPad. Also, you will be able to present beautiful slide shows, in glorious color and sound.

Using the new software Apps that Apple has developed for the iPad, will allow users to create some truly beautiful presentations. Apple has taken the iWork suite of programs, and created versions specifically for the iPad…at just $10 each. Quite a deal. The suite includes Keynote, for creating the best looking slide show presentations on any system. Pages, for creating print documents. Looking at the demo of Pages, Apple has created an amazing piece of software, that includes all the rich and complex features of the desktop version, but made it ultra easy to use on the iPad. The last piece of the suite is Numbers, a spreadsheet program that allows you to do all the things you would do with a spreadsheet, such as calculation in real time, the total cost of an album for a client, virtually instantly while talking with your prospective client.

Some tech experts announced Apple’s new, not-yet-released tablet, named iPad, as a marriage made in heaven between a smart phone and a laptop. Then some other tech experts looked closer and discovered that iPad can’t take photos. Gasp! But that is something even dumb (never mind smart!) cell phones can do. And what about making or receiving good old fashioned phone calls? Nope, can’t do that either.

Well, if it has no business in the smart phone gadgetry territory, then iPad must be the ultimate marriage made in heaven between a netbook and an e-reader, right? (A netbook is a light-weight and light-capacity laptop.) Well, it could be – if it was not for the fact that iPad cannot multitask (have multiple applications open) like the lowest of netbooks can. Wait, it also cannot browse the Flash sites on the internet like… yes, you’ve guessed it: like the lowest of netbooks can.

So, that leaves us with an e-book reader. But surely, Amazon’s Kindle is the king of that turf?

Does that mean that iPad has only one way to go: to oblivion?

Perhaps. Though, as everybody knows, when talking about Apple it is never wise to say “never”. After all, Apple was a late-comer in the smart phone market, but iPhone still managed to set the standards for the whole industry). Perhaps iPad will define new standards for a smartbook – whatever that turns out to be.

One thing is clear: Apple sure knows how to create a buzz around its products.

The attractive pricing leaves no doubt that Apple is determined to conquer the world with its iPad. The price for the 16GB model will be $499. The 32GB model will sell for $599 and the 64GB model for $699. The 3G wireless capability will cost $130 extra.

And in case you are already leafing through the internet in frantic haste to lay your hands on the earliest iPad that makes its appearance, relax. The first shipments are expected to hit the market in a month or two, in March or April 2010.
